It’s often said that small businesses are at their most precarious during the first two years of existence. It’s a crucial time, to be sure. But what goes on in a typical business during this start-up phase?

The Kauffman Firm Survey follows nearly 5,000 businesses founded in 2004 as they move through their early years of growth. The Survey checks back with these ventures over time and provides valuable insight into their evolution.
